Around the globe, parenting practices share the singular intentions of ensuring a child's health and safety while preparing children for life as productive adults with specific cultural values. Undoubtedly, the foundations for a child's life are established through their natural environments, nurturing individuals in their lives and everything in between, but as parents, we have the almighty responsibility to make sure that our children are taken care of and taught the fundamental basics.
As a Christian parent, teaching our young ones how to pray and praying for them on their behalf is as necessary a reliable pillar of strength for us as parents as it is for the prayers we are bestowing on our family.
We can pray for ourselves as parents, for patience, wisdom, and an abundance of health and love. We can especially pray for protection and a clear path of knowledge for how to handle the multitude of situations and circumstances that reveal themselves through the fleeting moments of the childhood years. And as those challenging young years pass, we must go on to pray that the Spirit of Jesus continues to grow in each one of our family members daily and that they never know a day without him. This continued prayer, and our ever-present modeling of the values and traditions we hold dear will stick with our children for the rest of their lives.
Setting aside this daily quiet time, with or without your children present creates an unbreakable relationship and bond with our Savior. Passing this meditative ritual down to our children is an incomparable gift. Prayer is powerful and it has the possibility to bring each and every one of us strength, hope, courage and beauty to our everyday lives, despite whatever the day may bring. This teaches us resilience and determination; strong, significant values that each child must learn in order to face the harsh realities we all grapple with. It also assists us in making positive, sound decisions and give us the space and time we need to reflect on things that may be bothering us.
Prayer gives us courage and comfort and, as parents, those are things that we know will always make an impact, regardless of age.
To send a meaningful prayer for your child, family or for yourself as a parent navigating this world, please share your thoughts with us and we will prepare a blessed candle ignited by the eternal flame in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre.
